The Logo Story

The 2026 Alberta Jr. Ladies Lacrosse Provincials logo was created by a member of the Calgary Cardinals organization — a labour of love that captures everything this tournament represents: the sport, the province, and the community that makes it all happen.

At the heart of the design are the Rocky Mountains — Alberta's most iconic landscape, and the backdrop that defines the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League itself. The RMLL has been the home of competitive lacrosse in this region for years, and hosting Provincials here is a point of pride for everyone who has competed in it.

Perched among the pines at the base of the mountains is a red Cardinal — the symbol of the host team. The Calgary Cardinals have built something special in this league, and bringing Provincials home to Brentwood Arena in July 2026 is a milestone moment for the program.

The women's lacrosse head rising above the mountains makes clear what this weekend is about — elite Junior Ladies lacrosse, showcased at the provincial level. Combined with the lacrosse shaft crossing the bottom of the crest and the maple leaf beneath it, the logo roots the tournament firmly in the Canadian lacrosse tradition.

The navy, gold, and steel blue colour palette carries the boldness of the Alberta sky, the warmth of the prairies, and the spirit of a sport that has been played on this land for far longer than any of us have been here.

The Creator's Game

Lacrosse is one of the oldest team sports in the world, played by Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island for thousands of years before European contact. Originally known as dehuntshigwa'es (Onondaga), tewaarathon (Mohawk), and many other names across nations, the game was gifted by the Creator — it was ceremony, medicine, and a way to resolve conflict between nations.

Matches could last days and involve hundreds of players across miles of open land. The game honoured the Creator and strengthened the communities that played it. It is for this reason many Indigenous peoples still refer to lacrosse as The Creator's Game.

As we gather in Calgary for the 2026 Alberta Major Female Lacrosse Provincials, we carry that history forward — honouring the game's origins while celebrating the next generation of players who love it.

Land Acknowledgment
We Acknowledge the Land

The 2026 Alberta Major Female Lacrosse Provincials takes place on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy) — including the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations — as well as the Tsuut'ina Nation, the Stoney Nakoda Nations, and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.

We acknowledge that Calgary is situated on Treaty 7 territory. We are grateful to live, play, and gather on this land, and we honour the Indigenous peoples who have been its caretakers since time immemorial.

As we celebrate lacrosse — The Creator's Game — we do so with deep respect for the Indigenous communities who gave this sport to the world.
